We’ve had an energising few weeks - celebrating national recognition for our Electric Homes Program at the Energy Efficiency Council Awards, and launching our new 2030 Strategy last week! This strategy reflects the strength and commitment of our growing movement, and we’re excited to build it together with you.
Amidst these milestones, we were deeply disappointed by the Victorian Government’s approval of Viva Energy’s gas import terminal in Corio Bay. The announcement came just a day after the Federal Government approved another major gas project in Western Australia - two massive fossil fuel developments in two days, each set to unleash billions of tonnes of carbon emissions into our atmosphere. Viva’s gas terminal poses unacceptable risks to our precious bay, undermines local safety, and locks us into decades of emissions at a time when bold climate action is urgently needed. We will continue to actively advocate on behalf of our community, our environment, and a safe, sustainable future. Our MPs also need to hear from you - see below how to use your voice.
I've been having a lot of conversations recently about how crucial it is to be engaged and connected within our communities - so we're actively part of forming the communities we want to live in. Real change is driven by people coming together—speaking up, showing up, and supporting one another. Whether it's through advocacy, local action, or just connecting. What we do matters.
With that in mind, yesterday we were proud to join the Walk for Truth. Led by the Yoorrook Justice Commission, the walk is a powerful way to build shared understanding between First Peoples and all Victorians and together, transform our future. There are still opportunities to join the walk which will finish at Parliament House on Wednesday 18 June.
And lastly, we'd love your help to continue to power local climate action and support our community to build resilience and ensure no one is left behind. Make a donation to Geelong Sustainability and support a powerful community movement for a just transition to net zero. Are you with us?
